Ibraheem Dooba

Dr. Ibraheem Dooba studied for six degrees from four continents to prepare himself for a career that spans five sectors. He has worked in the following sectors: computing, journalism, education, agriculture and finance. His career straddles both the public and private sectors. Some of the world-class institutions he attended include Harvard, London School of Journalism and Stanford University. 

1. Computing/Information Technology 

Dooba was the Special Adviser on ICT to the Governor of Niger State. He has a PhD in IT from the University of Technology Petronas, the leading private university in Malaysia and most of Southeast Asia. He also attended Stanford University‘s prestigious Advanced CyberSecurity Program (ACSP). In the six-month program, he rose to the first position on the class leaderboard within two months. There, he was taught by the best cybersecurity experts in the world, such as Professor Dan Boneh. 

Among his accomplishments as an IT expert, he helped PETRONAS (described by the New Yorker as best managed oil company in the world) to design, engineer and build its Plant Risk Inspection (PRI) software application used to monitor the safety and maintenance of assets worth billions of dollars around the world. He also helped design and build at least 50 web applications and websites for organisations and individuals.

Dr. Dooba is the founder/CEO of Mentor10 Software Engineering, which mentors Arewa youth in the tech field and helps them get relevant jobs through boot camps. For example, during the lockdown of 2020, he opened an online school where 500 students and their parents learned HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Amazon and many tech companies have headhunted Dooba. He has trained many boards and senior management of both public and private institutions in information security and management. 

2. Journalism/Writing 

He was the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State.  He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Daily Trust. Ibraheem has a master’s degree in Journalism, an honours diploma in Media Law from the London School of Journalism and a professional writing certificate from Iowa State University. He was the Southeast Asia correspondent for the Daily Trust. He was a Contributing editor for Success Digest magazine and a media consultant to the Senate Judiciary Committee. He has written for the Tribune, Sahara Reporters, and Gamji and was a columnist for the LEADERSHIP newspaper. His column (Prof Brainy) in the Daily Trust has been running for 20 years. Dr Dooba has written more than 15 books, some of which are on Amazon – including “The Social Science of Muhammad (SAW)”, “Impromptu Speaking Genius” and “The Secret of Straight-A Students.” He has a poetry collection titled “Rhymes from Africa.”

3. Finance 

Dr. Dooba graduated with first class in Business from the Swiss Management Center. He did a BA in Business and Management from Leeds Metropolitan University. He was the Chief Data Scientist for Retirement Benefits Advisory (RBA), West Africa’s foremost pension firm. He was the Niger State focal officer at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions. He is on the board of several companies. 

4. Education 

He also did his second master’s degree in psychology (of education). Dooba has over 20 years of teaching experience – from kindergarten to graduate school. At the undergraduate level, he taught web applications development and backend development and taught academic writing and research methods at the graduate level. 

Ibraheem Dooba was the head of the School of Esteem Learning Centre in Abuja, managing 200 staff. He has also been a PTA Chairman. Dr Dooba is the Editor-in-Chief of JASES (Journal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Sustainability). 

5. Agriculture 

Dr Dooba is the CEO of DoobaGrow and has facilitated the disbursement of billions of naira in agricultural intervention funding. He led the Bobi Grazing Reserve management team- which has 42,000 hectares. 

Dr Dooba’s research into the rapid propagation of Super Napier Grass has helped many farmers. However, his favourite agricultural activity is the planting of fruit trees. He is planting 200 million trees in his country – one tree for every Nigerian. 

In 2022, he wrote and launched ten books. But his passion is tree planting. That’s why he describes himself as “the most obsessed tree planter in the world”.

Also, in 2022, Ibraheem was accepted into the exclusive ALIWA ASPEN Institute Leadership Network.
