WAKASO MONTHLY POETRY PRIZE 

Mrs. Aisha Wakaso, a veteran journalist, child’s right activist, girl-child promoter, matron of Niger youths, fearless public affairs commentator and social crusader found it necessary to support arts in Nigeria by endowing a monthly poetry prize (online) of N20, 000 which started from November 2019. The prize was in honour of her late father, Captain Mohammed Wakaso from Niger State. The prize was administered by the Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation(HCAF).

The Wakaso Monthly Poetry Contest is open to all Poets in Nigeria, especially young ones. The maiden edition winner was Tolutope Ogedengbe with his poem titled LOST PARADISE, written on the theme “Owning Nigeria”. Other young poets won subsequent editions from across Nigeria. 

Madam Aisha who is currently, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Niger State on Print Media has  plans to bring back the competition in January 2024.
