Hajaarh Muhammad Bashar, Gbagyi, is a writer and poet born and raised in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. As a northern Nigerian, she writes in English, Hausa, and Pidgin. She is the winner of the Nigerian Prize for Indigenous language 2023 (pidgin category) and the winner of the Genti Media Pidgin Writing Competition 2023. Her short story emerged the 1st runner up for the Hafsat Abdulwahab Short Story Prize 2022. Her nonfiction ‘Outborn Wing’ was the 1st runner up for the WeNaija Literary Contest 2023 (nonfiction category). In 2021, she was announced as the winner of Abubakar Gimba Prize for short story. Hajaarh is a two-time finalist of TYS nonfiction contest 2021 and 2022 respectively. She was the 1st runner up for the Sevhage short story prize 2019 and the 2nd runner up for the poetically written prose contest 2019. In 2018, she won the Poetry Planet contest with her poem ‘Coffee’ and she was the finalist of JB Afenfia poetry and flash fiction contest 2018. Hajaarh was a fellow of Badamurya Fellowship in 2021. She has been interviewed by Africa in Dialogue, The Influential Hausa, and Daily Stream. Her works have appeared in Isele Magazine, Kendeka Anthology, Twenty-two Twenty-eight magazine, ANA review, Akuko Magazine, Bakwa Magazine, Artslounge Magazine, and many others. Her nonfiction was recently shortlisted for the Alinea Prize for nonfiction 2023. She is currently working on her debut manuscript.
