Mohammed Awal Idris-Evuti is a dedicated educator in the Computer Engineering Department of the Federal Polytechnic Bida. While his professional life revolves around technology and engineering, he is deeply engaged in literary pursuits and social activism. His first poetry collection, Sore Melodies, was published in 2006.
This son of a retired Chief of Niger State finds solace in the written word and often expresses himself through various forms of creative writing. Whether it’s crafting thought-provoking essays, composing poetry, or creating compelling stories. Artistic sense is a trait of Father O’Connell Secondary School graduates. His passion for social change has led him to engage in various initiatives to impact society actively and positively.
Awal’s involvement in the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has been profound. He has held key positions within the organization over the years, including serving as the State Secretary and currently as the State Chairman. ANA has been a platform for him to contribute meaningfully to the literary community. He has been part of initiatives like the Annual Schools Carnival of Arts and Festival of Songs (ASCAFS), which the ANA Niger State Branch organizes, which celebrates culture, art, science and literature while fostering community unity.
As a Youth Corp member, he initiated and facilitated the Katsina Teen Authors Mentorship Workshops that nurtured young talents in creative writing. He co-hosted “Writers World” on Crystal Radio 91.2FM (now 91.3FM) in Minna while serving as the Publicity Secretary of ANA Niger. This platform allowed for promoting literature and literary events, connecting with a broader audience.
As Deputy Director of Information Technology Services (ITS), he secured the Google Suite License for the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, where he teaches, facilitating seamless access to research platforms worldwide.
He is an individual who thrives at the intersection of technology and creativity and is proud to be a part of Minna’s vibrant literary community. In Minna, a city of literature, we celebrate the power of words and work tirelessly to improve our society through Creative writing.
