Al-Mamun Mallam is a development practitioner by vocation, an agricultural economist by training and a writer by calling. His school play, The Strength of a Woman, won prizes in the 2004 Annual Schools’ Carnival of Arts and Festival of Songs organised by the Association of Nigerian Authors in Minna, Nigeria. His short stories, critical essays and poetry have been published in anthologies and literary pages of newspapers and magazines in Nigeria, including Fireflies, Shadows, the New Nigerian, the Daily Trust, and the Independent, amongst others.
Almamun, who was a former Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors, took a break from writing to concentrate on his career as a development practitioner, first with the World Bank Assisted Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) and later with the African Development Bank (AfDB) funded Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program (ATASP-1), Nigeria, where he now works as the Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist of Bida-Badeggi SCPZ of the Project.
He is a PhD candidate at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. His collection of short stories, Rainbow of the Savannah, will be published in 2023. Also, he is a guest mentor and editor at the Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation, Minna.
He lives with his adorable wife and five kids in Minna, reputed as the literary capital of Nigeria.
