Sadisu Mohammed

Sadisu Mohammed otherwise known as Teacher Yekondu in Nupe movie industry, Niger State and Nupe land, lived a rather short life of adventures, writings, theatre, movies, artistic restlessness, social anxiety and a crusader of Nupe language and culture in Nigeria.

He was a humourist, satirist, dramatist, poetry performer per excellence, playwright, short story writer, para-poet, essayist, socialite, Nupe language singer and wrapper. Sadisu was a complete package of art who saw academic environment as a prison; he was always on the move, point-to-point, night and day, city to city.

Sadisu Mohammed or Teacher Yekondunu was a graduate of linguistics from IBB University, Lapai, who has to his credit a collection of short stories, unpublished manuscripts in both Nupe and English languages. He co-translated Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya’s play (Ignorance is a disease) with Isyaku B. Ibrahim into Nupe Language in 2012. Also, he was translating one of BM Dzukogi’s books into Nupe when he died.

Sadisu Mohammed became the first turbaned King of Nupe Movie Industry in Nigeria by His Royal Highness, Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe about 10yrs ago. He has featured in many Nupe movies.

The departure of Sadisu from earth was devastatingly shocking to Minna and Nigeria’s literary art communities. The versatile artist who was also a political mobiliser is being missed, greatly.
