Amrah Aliyu is a multifaceted advocate, a poet, and a visionary leader dedicated to advancing gender equality and social inclusion in Northern Nigeria.
As a published author of the poetry book “Breasts Are Names of Flowers,” Amrah has harnessed the power of words to amplify her advocacy efforts. She holds a Master’s in International Development from ABU Zaria DLC and specializes in CEM at Pan-Atlantic University. Her professional growth extends globally, having received training in campaign strategy and advocacy from RNW Media in the Netherlands.
Amrah’s leadership and commitment have earned her recognition as a TEDx speaker and organizer, underscoring her influence as a change-maker. Her work echoes her core values of fairness, inclusivity, and citizenship, and she stands as a beacon of hope for countless women and girls in her community.
Amrah’s role as the Executive Director of the Salma Attah Foundation for Women and Girls Support underscores her commitment to tangible impact. Her nonprofit has reached over 5,000 girls across 20 underserved communities, including internally displaced persons camps, through its menstrual hygiene initiative “Periods Without Limits.” Furthermore, her advocacy efforts have led to presenting a Menstrual Equity Bill to the Nigerian Parliament.

Amrah is a recipient of a scholarship awarded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Netherlands’ development policy towards the advancement of her advocacy programs. Her dedication has garnered her achievements, including specialized training by The Taz Panter Foundation, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. She was part of a group of journalists from Nigeria who underwent training in Berlin to report on challenges facing Nigeria’s future, learning from activists, media practitioners, and journalists.
Amrah’s impact was further highlighted when she was recognized as one of the global voices fighting COVID-19 in their communities by Youth SDGs NG and We Make Change. She was also featured on BBC Media Action for her exceptional projects during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her initiatives included educating her community, raising awareness of Covid-19 through social media, and distributing locally-made hand sanitisers and reusable face masks to underprivileged communities.
