Maryam Shuaib Bobi, the author of Bongel, has a Masters Degree in Cyber Security Science from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. She writes in Hausa as well.
She served as Deputy Senate leader of the Nigeria Children’s Parliament between 2005- 2008, during which she attended conferences and workshops, including the 1st Nigerian Junior Legislators Forum held in Lafia, Nassarawa State, in 2005.
She has participated in several literary workshops across the country including ANA/Atiku National Workshop on Children’s Literature, Yola, 2009; 1st Northern Nigeria Writers Summit, Minna, 2008; She was invited to the 2013 Farafina Trust Creative Writing Workshop facilitated by Chimamanda Adichie; she is a regular at the Annual International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), a key player in the organisation of the MBA International Literary Colloquium, Maryam participated as a guest writer at the Kaduna Books and Arts Festival (KABAFEST) in Kaduna, Nigeria in 2017.
Her debut novel ‘Bongel’ was a joint winner of the ANA Prose Prize 2015, and in the same year, she benefitted from the Marine Platforms award for literature in Northern Nigeria.
Aside from writing, Maryam is into ICT as a database and security expert; she served as a Special Assistant on ICT Development to the Chief Servant of Niger State between 2012-2015 and was posted to Research and Documentation Unit. She later became the Head of the ICT Training Unit at the Niger State Book and Other Intellectual Resource Development Agency. She is currently a staff with the Niger State Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health, posted to Niger State Contributory Health Agency (NiCare). Bobi is an Entrepreneur building a name in Beauty and Wellness.
