The Niger State Government, Minna Emirate and writers in the state are making efforts to get Minna, the capital of Niger State designated as a UNESCO CITY OF LITERATURE.
In a statement by Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, he stated that the effort to bring Minna city to the global arena of literature started in the era of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu in 2010 from when Nigerian writers, home and abroad, were converging on the city and declared Minna as the Mecca of literature in Nigeria. “So, what Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation is doing now, is a renewal of the quest to give Minna its rightful status in national and global literature. The time is now, when you have a government in the state, with a global mind”.
BM Dzukogi agreed with Prof. Kuta. He said that, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ojukwu, Cyprain Ekwensi, Ben Okri, Abubakar Imam Kagara, Bello Kagara, Abubakar Gimba, Mamman Jiya Vatsa, Yahaya Dangana, and many others were born in Niger State: So, Minna is well qualified. We applied in 2023 but couldn’t get it due to late submission of application. Gov. Bago signed the papers for us. So, we are here again. On Monday, we shall have a Press Conference to address writers in the state. We seek the support of Nigerians towards achieving this task.
